You will be transported along the beach in a comfortable beach bus, which is also accessible to wheelchair users, to the nature reserve "De Hôn". During the beach ride you will receive information about the beach, sand nourishment, reed screens, beach poles and the like. The first stop is at the salt marsh. An area that twenty years ago still consisted of a bare sand flat with primary dunes, but has become overgrown after the construction of a drift fence. The salt marsh is crisscrossed by creeks that enter the area from the Wadden Sea. During a short walk, the driver will explain this unique area.
After this walk, the beach bus continues to the easternmost point of the island. Here you can get out to look for shells or enjoy the view. Many options for groups with the Beach Express.

Eilandhopper: adventure for young and old. Eilandhopper is a unique concept because it is the only sailing timetable between the Wadden Islands. It is also a special way to 'hop' from island to island. The crossings are sailed by two historic sailing clippers. The clipper Avontuur sails the route between Amsterdam, Enkhuizen, Texel and Terschelling. The clipper Willem Jacob sails between Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland and Schiermonnikoog.
Join us island hopping on the Wadden Sea aboard a historic sailing clipper. You can book a single crossing, or sail along for a whole week. While island hopping you can sleep on board, or arrange your own hotel, campsite or bed & breakfast. A round trip across the IJsselmeer and along the Wadden Islands starts every Saturday in Amsterdam and Lauwersoog. View the timetable; you can also book directly via the site. In addition to the timetable between the departure harbours, there are also various sightseeing cruises from the Wadden Islands, and therefore also from Ameland! View the overview of the sightseeing cruises on the Wadden Sea here.
Historic sailing clippers. Island hopping on the IJsselmeer and the Wadden Sea is done with two traditional sailing clippers: the Avontuur and the Willem Jacob. Both sailing ships are more than 100 years old and offer you the unique chance to discover the Wad and the islands in an adventurous way. On board you can help the skipper and mate with sailing. A cook takes care of tasty meals.
For more information you can visit the website or contact the skipper directly at 06 - 38 297 449 or by email at info@eilandhopper.nl.

The meeting point is the ferry dam at Holwerd. From the ferry dam we walk approx. 3.5 km over the Wad towards the east. Then we arrive at the wantij and can make the course turn to the north. (The wantij is the part of the Wad where the eastern and western currents meet, with the result that the currents cancel each other out; there silt settles and the Wad is at its highest and driest.)
Having arrived at the wantij, we turn north, wade through the 2.5 km wide coastal valley (in the deepest part there can be up to 1.40 m of water) until we reach the southern extensions of the Holwerderbalg. There we take a short break and then go approx. 3 km over a sandbank that almost falls dry to the northern extensions of the Holwerderbalg, the key passage. Depending on the tide and water level, the water here can reach chest height and already be noticeably flowing.
Once we have passed the northern channel, we walk approx. 2.5 km over the Wad towards the duck decoy and then another 4.5 km to the village of Buren on Ameland. In total the walk is 20 km.
