Seal trip

A seal trip with the "Zeehond" is without a doubt one of the very best attractions Ameland has to offer. The passenger ship "Zeehond", put into service in 1996, has a spacious and warmly decorated lounge with a cozy atmosphere, where even in less nice weather the large panoramic windows give every seat a generous view over the Wadden Sea. For those who prefer the outdoors, there is also a spacious sun deck where you can enjoy the fresh sea breeze.

The "Zeehond" is a child-friendly and especially child-safe boat, thanks to the fully enclosed railing around the ship and the presence of a play room for the little ones. During the boat tour, the skipper gives you a clear explanation. At Seal Island, all passengers are asked to be quiet, and there is ample opportunity to observe the seals from very short distance. You can safely embark on the adventure, because 100% seal guarantee is given! An optional excursion onto the Schelpenbank can be done safely and easily by means of the hydraulic gangway specially designed for this purpose on the foredeck of the boat.

Nature Centre

In April 2009, the new Nature Centre opened in Nes. The centre combines 'gaining knowledge' in an appealing way with 'experiencing and living'. Here you are taken on a spectacular journey through the Ameland nature, you witness the formation of the Wadden area and you feel involved in the efforts needed to preserve the island.

The water theatre takes you into the fascinating underwater world of the North Sea, and on the viewing platform you experience the vastness of the Wadden and North Sea area. Demonstrations and animations make expertise in the fields of nature, sea and energy accessible to visitors in a playful way. Both (school) groups and individual visitors can go on an expedition with a guide on the mudflats, the beach or in the dunes.
